States Rally in Support of Farm Credit Centennial

Farm Credit supports rural communities and agriculture in every state in the nation. As we mark our 100th year of service, many states express appreciation for the important contributions Farm Credit makes to their agricultural producers and economies. In addition to Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Oklahoma and Pennsylvania previously featured on the Farm Credit 100 blog, below are highlights from eight additional states that have formally recognized Farm Credit’s centennial.

  • Connecticut’s governor’s proclamation said: “On behalf of the State of Connecticut, I, Dannel P. Malloy, Governor, take great pleasure in honoring and recognizing Farm Credit East on the occasion of your 100th Anniversary. This recognition is a testament to your commitment to providing credit and affiliated services to those in agriculture and related industries in Connecticut and other states across the Northeast…I applaud your many accomplishments and wish you continued success in your future endeavors.”
  • Maine Governor Paul R. LePage expressed his support with these words: “The Farm Credit System plays an important role in supporting agriculture, forest products, and commercial fishing, which are integral to the history, culture and economies of the state and region…congratulations for reaching such a milestone. Best wishes and continued success for another 100 years.”
  • In Massachusetts and New Jersey, Governors Charles D. Baker and Chris Christie, respectively, proclaimed July 17, 2016 to be Farm Credit East Centennial Day, recognizing both Farm Credit’s financial contributions as well as its support for rural communities: “Farm Credit East and its employees are active in stewardship and charitable efforts in the rural community they serve, and…Farm Credit East supports programs to promote agriculture, forest products and commercial fishing and encourages youth participation and leadership development through programs like FFA and 4-H.” New Jersey’s legislature added its own support with a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition, and the delegates to the 101 issued a resolution that said “[we] do congratulate Farm Credit East on 100 years of helping New Jersey agriculture to grow and thrive, and commend the good works of Farm Credit East.”
  • New York’s governor shared these words: “I, Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor of the State of New York, do hereby congratulate the cooperative owners and employees of Farm Credit East as you celebrate this Centennial Anniversary and continue to add to your proud history and honorable tradition of service on behalf of New York State’s agricultural and rural communities.”
  • In Ohio, the state Senate passed a resolution that “praised the Federal Farm Loan Act of 1916 for creating the Farm Credit System, which has served as a means for rural communities and agricultural producers to obtain financing. The resolution and proclamation also applauded and commended those associated with the passage of the Act for their foresight.” Ohio Director of Agriculture David Daniels also paid tribute to the passage of the Act by issuing a similar proclamation.
  • Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe and West Virginia Governor Earl Ray Tomblin each presented Farm Credit with proclamations recognizing the centennial milestone.

Farm Credit is proud to support agriculture and rural communities in these and every other state and Puerto Rico, and looks forward to continuing to provide the financial tools they need to thrive.
