Farm Credit 100 Week Activities Kick Off

This week in Washington D.C., Farm Credit is celebrating 100 years of supporting rural communities and agriculture with reliable and consistent credit with a series of special events.

The festivities kicked-off Tuesday evening with Representatives Austin Scott (R-GA) and David Scott (D-GA), the Chair and Ranking Member, respectively, of the House Agriculture Committee’s subcommittee on rural credit, taking to the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives to lead a session during which Members of the House had the opportunity to make statements to recognize Farm Credit’s 100 years of support to rural communities and agriculture.

Wednesday, June 15

House Rural Infrastructure Panel Discussion
1:30-3:00 p.m., 2168 Rayburn House Office Building, Gold Room

The panel, presented in collaboration with Rep. Austin Scott (R-GA), and Rep. David Scott (D-GA), will address the critical needs of rural communities and agriculture for clean water, efficient energy, sufficient healthcare facilities and modern telecommunications services.

Farm Credit 100 Reception
6:00-7:30 p.m., Library of Congress, Madison Building, Montpelier Room, 6th Floor

A Congressional Reception will welcome special guests including House Agriculture Committee Chairman Mike Conaway (R-TX), Ranking Member Collin Peterson (D-MN), Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman Pat Roberts (R-KS), and Ranking Member Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), as well as Farm Credit 100 Fresh Perspectives honorees. The reception will feature a pop up Farmer’s Market with local products from across the U.S. provided by nearly 70 Farm Credit customers. Nearly 1,000 Congressional leaders and staff, Farm Credit customers and representatives, and media are expected to attend.

Thursday, June 16

Senate Future of Agriculture Panel Discussion
10:00-11:30 a.m., 902 Hart Senate Office Building

Hosted by Sen. Pat Roberts (R-KS) and Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), Chairman and Ranking Member, respectively, of the Senate Agriculture Committee, this panel will feature a discussion among young and beginning farmers who will discuss services, opportunities and programs that help their businesses, and provide a general outlook for young and beginning producers. This will be an essential discussion about the future of agriculture, led by moderator Peyton Fair from Farm Credit, Mid America.

The panel includes several beginning farmers and a representative of Farmer Veteran Coalition, which helps military veterans get established in agriculture. This panel will also be streamed live via Periscope from the @FarmCredit Twitter channel.

Farm Credit 100 Fresh Perspectives Honoree Luncheon
12:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m., Hyatt Regency Capitol Hill, 400 New Jersey Ave. NW

The capstone of the week will be the Farm Credit 100 Fresh Perspectives Honoree Luncheon, where we’ll recognize the Farm Credit 100 Fresh Perspective honorees, who were selected from more than 1,000 nominees in a national search for 100 leaders across America who are working to change the face and the future of agriculture and rural communities. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack will deliver keynote remarks.
